Writing with Ruth Danon
Ruth Danon teaches poetry using constraint based improvisational methods. Participants are presented with experiential, linguistic, and formal constraints that instigate writing during the class. Classes also focus on technique and craft and include more traditional “workshopping” of individual poems. The emphasis is on the connection between process and product; the aim of the work is to achieve surprise for both writer and reader. Students get significant individual attention through private conferences and have the opportunity to participate in public readings. Eight- week sessions are repeated throughout the year.
