“Transformational Tides,” monoprints by Carol Mainardi at RiverWinds Gallery

Ongoing through May 6th.

RiverWinds Gallery, 172 Main Street – Beacon

“Transformational Tides,” monoprints of mermaids by Carol Margreither Mainard. Mainardi expands the allegorical element, creating a dialectic between her mermaids and their inner world and what they encounter within their environment.

Beginning as a self-reflective artistic endeavor, Carol soon discovered the archetypal element within the mermaid reflecting, in many ways, the journey of all women. The show details her recent one-of-a-kind monoprint series capturing the openness mermaids feel, being safe to swim and dance in the water. The mermaids are “Shadow Dancing” — swirling and feeling buoyant, cheerful, and optimistic. “Our Blue Planet” tells the story of mermaids together celebrating clean waters, while in contrast, Carol’s original oil painting “Gulf of Mexico” emotionally depicts the mermaid’s sadness in her toxic environment.
