“Margaret Ryan: A Multi-Faceted Retrospective” shows the artist exploring her many sides. Not content with just painting realistic still lifes, Margaret also enjoys exploring abstraction and impressionism. The opening reception will be held at RiverWinds Gallery August 12, during Beacon’s Second Saturday, from 5-8 pm.
“I have always been in the art world, one way or another. I studied ceramics, silk screening, sculpture and drawing to achieve my goals at an art college in London,” Margaret says. “I worked at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and at a major scenic shop in London painting scenery and making props.
“When I moved to New York, I passed the scenic union exam for Local 829, enabling me to work in the Broadway shops, TV shows, and in the movie business for many years. I have screen credits for movies, as well as for being Charge Scenic Artist for Sesame Street.”
Active in local art organizations, Margaret has been painting plein air for many years. In addition, she teaches drawing and painting at local centers.
