Joan Henry and her all-star ensemble SPIRITED will raise the bar of jazz excellence ever higher, from great standards like “Funny Valentine,” to a fusion of Native-world-jazz-r&b originals (Weather Report meets Steps Ahead and goes to a Powwow), and share stories and teachings from her Native American lineage that are medicine for the heart. Evan Pritchard, host of the Tribal Harmony series, opens at 7 pm with traditional Native American drum songs, and original jazz and blues, with a guest appearance from indigenous guitarist Patrick Jones. Joan Henry has a sumptuous and searing voice that can draw down the moon or lift up your heart. As a powerhouse vocalist, she has released several CDs, (Uprising, etc), graced many stages (Lincoln Center, New Victory Theatre, etc.) and been seen & heard in TV &films (Pocahontas with Russell Means, etc.) SPIRITED includes local jazz luminaries Dennis Yerry (piano), Ruperto Ifil (percussion) Rich Syracuse (string bass), Tom DePetri (guitar), and Gus Mancini (sax), most of whom head up their own bands when not in SPIRITED.https://earthsinger.net/spirited-native-world-jazz/
