Saturday, July 14th, 6 – 9pm
Hudson Beach Glass, 162 Main Street – Beacon
Hudson Beach Gallery is proud to welcome Collaborative Concepts 2D artists to show once again in Beacon. In 2001 a group headed by Herman Roggeman and Eric Arctander brought Collaborative Concepts from Cold Spring to Beacon. At the time it was the first major gallery before Dia. It presented more than 30 exhibitions over the five years, with artists residencies and a small outdoor sculpture space. The gallery received numerous write-ups from The New York Times on the quality of its artists and exhibitions. Since 2006, Collaborative has presented an annual outdoor sculpture exhibition at Saunders Farm in Garrison, NY each fall along with a sculpture walk at Highland Falls and in the nature trails of RoCA in West Nyack. They have continued to work with artists of a high caliber that exhibit not only in the Hudson Valley but in New York City and some exhibit worldwide.
The show is a contemporary mix of abstract and line. As an art element, line pertains to the use of various marks, outlines and implied lines, most often used to define shape in two-dimensional artwork. Lines are one of the most important elements of art in communicating an idea or direction. Whether sharp, fuzzy or implied it can express feeling in the piece.
Each artist has used line in this exhibit to tell a story. Elizabeth White uses line through human hair mimicking tall grasses near a pond. Anne Johann’s tree limbs suggests grace and beauty mimicking the lines of the human figures seen in Louise Kerr and Chuck von Schmidt’s paintings. Francine Perlman’s circular lines suggest Infinity while Max Yawney creates paths of order and chaos.
The public is invited to meet the artists on July 14th, 6-9 pm, for an opening reception. Artists in the exhibit are: Inez Andrucyk, Richard Brachman, Jean Brennan, Phil Cianci, Rebecca Darlington, Marcy Freedman, Janet Goldner, Anne Johann, Louise Kerr, Simone Kestelman, Karen Madden, Alison McNulty, Sharon Nakazato, Francine Perlman, Sheilah Rechtshaeffer, Stephen Rose, Cassandra Saulter, Chuck von Schmidt, Jill Shoffiett, Jon Bon Signore, Jim Thompson, Elizabeth White, Eva Whorley, Max Yawney, and JoAnn Zwolski.
