Center for Creative Education ~ 464 Main Street
The last Wednesday (and sometimes the 4th Wednesday) of every month is our monthly BeaconArts Member Meet Up!
This month our host is Bryant Drew Andrews and the Center for Creative Education – Beacon. Founded in Kingston, NY, in 1989, the Center for Creative Education, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has as its mission to create a better world by nurturing and empowering youth and community through the arts. This mission is accomplished by providing innovative, high quality programs- with a special emphasis on serving low income, minority and at-risk children and youth.
The Center provides a wide array of classes in dance, music, fitness, theater, spoken word, and the visual arts. The Center’s programs use the arts to teach basic life skills such as persistence, teamwork, discipline, focus and mastery. A strong emphasis is placed on having a healthy mind and a healthy body, and on the importance of education as a path to a better life.
The Center has a long standing policy of turning no child away due to the inability to pay, and 84% of its current students receive scholarship assistance. The Center has a very diverse staff and board, one that reflects the diversity of its student body.
BeaconArts member Donna Mikkelsen‘s “Word Alchemy” is currently on the walls at the Center. Donna will be there to talk about her work, as well as a being a representative of CCE.
