The Beacon Thursday Painters

Ongoing through Sept 3rd

Howland Public Library
313 Main Street

The Beacon Thursday Painters are taking over the Howland Library’s Community Room Exhibit Space for the month of August. The painters are a group of seniors, some experienced, some new to painting, who meet at the Beacon Recreation Center every Thursday. While the class has existed for over 20 years, it didn’t always have a permanent home. Mark Price, Beacon’s recreation director, restarted the program in 2014 with local artist, Jan Dolan, as the teacher. Jan Dolan has been encouraging the students to explore new options while developing and improving their own style. One class project resulted in a multi panel collage depicting local Beacon scenes, currently on long term loan to the Library. As part of this exhibit, the group will be unveiling two new collaborative pieces.
