12 sculptures by 11 artists on and near Main Street in Beacon, NY: See the story
Beacon 3D was started as an annual public art project of BeaconArts in 2013 as a way to commemorate Beacon’s Centennial Year; we had just 3 sculptures in one location in 2013 with work by Insun Kim, Ed Benavente and Tadashi Hashimoto. We have quickly developed into an award-winning annual event (thanks to Arts Mid-Hudson) highlighting the works of local and regional sculptors. In 2016 we are pleased to present the work of eleven artists: Wilfredo Morel, Ann Provan, Herman Roggeman, Insun Kim, Judy Sigunick, Sarah Haviland, Ed Benavente, Ken Wright, Emil Alzamora, Jon Reichert and Naomi Teppich. Please visit the website beacon3d.org to learn more about the artists and the location of their works on and near Main Street in Beacon.
Mission + Legacy
Now in our fourth year we are looking forward to developing some new ideas and letting go of others. The learning curve continues but we are feeling optimistic about the future of Beacon 3D. Approaching the five year mark, we think it is time to celebrate and plan and commit to this program in a new and vital way. The mission of Beacon 3D is to promote the arts in a public venue for the enjoyment of the community at large as well as to provide established and emerging artists with the opportunity to present their large-scale creations in a 5-month long annual installation. This year we will be initiating and building an acquisition/purchase fund to now and again acquire a work of outdoor sculpture by one of the Beacon 3D artists. With the City of Beacon’s approval, we look forward to siting our “first purchase” sculpture in the late fall of 2016.
