Grant Deadline Upcoming: USArtists International 2017-2018

USArtists International (USAI) supports performances by U.S. dance, music, and theater ensembles and solo artists invited to perform at important cultural festivals and performing arts marketplaces anywhere in the world outside the United States and its territories. Last year, USAI awarded approximately $750,000 in support of U.S. artists’ performances abroad.

It’s time to apply!

Applications for Round I are due September 7, 2017 at 11:59 PM ET

Congratulations Beacon Buzzers 2017 Battle of the Books Champs!

On Saturday, August 19th, the 2nd Annual MHLS High School Battle of the Books was held at Poughkeepsie Day School. Battle of the Book is a national Summer Reading Program for middle and high school students in the five-county region of the Mid-Hudson Library System. The Beacon team faced off against Beekman Library in the final battle and took home the first place banner which is now on display at the library.
Congratulations to Beekman (2nd Place) and Kingston (3rd Place).

Beacon Arts President Receives Special Citation from the Dutchess County Executive

The persistent drum of artists and their collective hum have been instrumental to the creation of intangible as well as economic value in Beacon, New York. Whereas in the past BeaconArts fiscally sponsored the independently produced “Windows on Main Street,” this year the nonprofit will produce this annual event as an organizational project, in alignment with its mission to preserve, nurture and promote the cultural vibrancy that has become the trademark of this city. Looking for actors to portray the ghosts of the following historical figures:

 Catheryna Rombout “Madam” Brett (any age – she lived until her 90’s) An incredible business woman, strong and independent

Alexander Hamilton (age 20 – 50)

Civil War Captain Abiel T. LaForge (age c. 30 years) A bright star, full of life, loved by everyone, self-educated and a big flirt. He was such a “gemini” that he talked all day (mostly to women) read books and talked all night, and talked in his diaries before bed! He was also a common man but made his way up to the top by gaining the respect of everyone he met.

Howland Librarian Nancy Lamont (age 40 – 65) A spunky, organized and career minded librarian.  She dedicated her whole life to the library

Scripts will be available August 18. Each script will be 10 minutes long. There will be 3-4 tours per evening each day. We would like to have a few rehearsals prior.
