The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. It is designed to encourage literacy and restore reading to the center of American culture by providing opportunities for communities to read, discuss and interpret a selected work of literature.
2012 is the sixth year that the Poughkeepsie Public Library District has been honored with an NEA grant to coordinate a community-wide Big Read project. With the support of local businesses, libraries, Friends groups, arts organizations and educational institutions, an exciting schedule of over 80 public programs are planned for between October 13th and November 9th.
