Grammy-nominated SETH GLIER comes to THE BEACON, Saturday, October 13 at 8:00pm
The Beacon (Theatre), in association with Rhinebeck Bank, announced that
Grammy-nominated performer Seth Glier will join the FrontStage at The Beacon on
Saturday, October 13th at 8PM as part of the theatre’s expanding fall concert series.
In 2011, as The Beacon as it was going through his first phase of restoration, Glier
filmed two of his music videos at the theatre from the album “The Next Right Thing” that
eventually garnered him an Grammy nomination.
For the 22-year-old Massachusetts native, “The Next Right Thing” isn’t just an album
title – it’s a way of life. “Each one of us is presented with the opportunity every day to do
the next right thing, but we rarely take the time,” Glier says. “For a society so obsessed
with being a part of something greater than ourselves, we are really quick to let our own
fears and indifference shut the door on our intentions.” For his sophomore MPress
Records release, the Berklee educated singer/pianist set out to document the ways in
which he – and the people he encounters on the road – attempts to do “the next right
thing, as opposed to the next thing right.”
Despite his relatively young age Glier is a seasoned troubadour, traveling all over the
United States and performing over 200 dates a year. In 2010 he opened for Edwin
McCain and The Verve Pipe, appeared with his idol James Taylor and performed on
main stages of the prestigious Falcon Ridge and Kerrville Folk Festivals, with rave
reviews and a constantly-expanding fan base following him every step of the way. “I’m
an ambassador,” Glier explains. “I travel from place to place carrying my songs and
stories with me, and I want people to leave my show changed. Some people won’t
remember the songs I sing, but they will remember how they felt while hearing them.
That’s what I want to do – to remind people, including myself, why we’re here: to
connect!”
Joining Glier will be songwriter Anthony Da Costa. At the ripe age of twenty-one and a
senior at Columbia University, Da Costa embarks on the release of Secret Handshake.
In 2009, Anthony was named an MSNBC.com “Top 5 Up-&-Coming Young Singer” and
a “WFUV-FM New Artist To Watch”. In 2008, he released two critically-acclaimed
albums and was a Folk Alliance “Emerging Artist of the Year” nominee. In 2007, at 16,
he became the youngest winner ever at the Falcon Ridge and Kerrville Folk Festivals.
Da Costa has played many major festivals, including the Kerrville Folk Festival, Falcon
Ridge, Philadelphia and Tonder (Denmark); showcased at SXSW and Tin Pan South,
and opened for such music icons as Loretta Lynn, Judy Collins, Suzanne Vega, and
Dan Bern. With one foot in folk, and the other foot loose and wandering into various
other genres, Da Costa released his eighth record in 2009, Not Afraid of Nothing, which
“has the lyrical quality of a John Prine album” (Twangville). He recently completed his
latest album, a rock/americana effort called Secret Handshake. It was recorded in
Brooklyn and features a slew of wonderful NYC musicians.
