Beacon Open Studios and the Mill Street Loft Arts are pleased to announce: The Big Draw, Gala Party Jan 28; exhibition open now through the 28th

Beacon Open Studios and Mill Street Loft Arts are pleased to present The Big Draw, an open submission art show on view at Scenic Hudson’s River Center, at 8 Long Dock Road on the Beacon Waterfront in Beacon NY, from January 14^th – 28^th.  Two separate celebrations have been scheduled for the Big Draw event. A free public opening reception and preview will take place on Saturday, January 14^th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm as part of Beacon’s Second Saturday, a monthly celebration of the arts.  On Saturday, January 28^th, the exhibition will culminate with a Gala Party & Live Drawing Rally from 7:00 – 10:00pm.

The Big Draw Gala Party on Saturday, January 28^th is a night of live drawing, prix fixe art, music, food & drink, an open bar and many more festivities.  The Drawing Rally will feature a pre-arranged select group of artists creating 11”x14” drawings while the party goes on around them. Revelers are invited to watch as the drawings are created at tables in the center of the exhibition space. As these drawings are completed, they will immediately be put up for sale on the wall for $75 each.

The Big Draw Exhibition, January 14^th – 28^th – Starting on January 14^th, a wide variety of 6”x8” artworks will be for sale at the prix fixe price of $50 each. Artists from across the country have been invited to submit works on paper in any media as long as they conform to the 6”x8” size limit. These small artworks will include photographs, collage, painting, mixed media and other art on paper. The works will be on view (and for sale) at the River Center from January14^th – 28^th.   River Center Gallery Hours are from 9:30 – 11:30 am on Mondays & Wednesdays, from 9:30am – 2:30 pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays and from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Tickets for The Big Draw Gala Party will be available at the door on Saturday, January 28th.  Ticket prices are $15 each or 2 for $20. Proceeds from the evening’s event will benefit Beacon Open Studios, Mill Street Loft Arts and the participating artists.

Beacon Open Studios is an annual city-wide art event, connecting local artist and their studios to the public. Beacon Open Studios gives the public a chance to look at art in an intimate setting. Visitors and art enthusiasts have total viewing access to workspaces where artists display past, current and artworks in progress. Artists who participate have unfiltered access to an audience for their art without the need to rely on a gallery or outside curator. Beacon Open Studios aspires to bring visitors from the surrounding areas to create a stronger sense of awareness of Beacon as an art destination. With more than 60 participating artists last year, we happily expect this year’s event to exceed that number. Beacon Open Studios is now in its third year, scheduled for April 28-29, 2012.

Mill Street Loft Arts is a not-for-profit, Multi-Arts Educational Center and Exhibition Facility based in the Cities of Poughkeepsie and Beacon, NY. Through their award winning Dutchess Arts Camp, Art Institute and year-round art classes for children and adults, MSL offers a wide range of visual an other arts programming including design arts, music, drama, dance, poetry, storytelling, photography, public art,  folk art and public outreach programs to the Hudson Valley. Courses and programs are available in Beacon, Millbrook, Poughkeepsie and Red Hook.
