4TH WALL PRODUCTIONS PROUDLY PRESENTS Tony Award-winning comedy “ART” @ The Beacon; opening night Jan 27, 2012; through Feb 5
"Left to Right: Actors in rehearsal for Yasmin Reza's comedy ART - Pat Manning as "Mark", Rick Meyer as "Serge", Jeff Sculley as "Yvan"
How would you feel about your best friend if he suddenly did something so colossally stupid in your eyes it made you question your very friendship? It happens in Yasmina Reza’s monster international hit, ART, winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Comedy and New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play of the same year.
When an art lover buys what is in essence a pure white painting for a horse-choking sum of money, his best friend goes ballistic and a third friend gets squeezed in the middle. Questions about strange modern art – and strange modern friendships – fly thick.
4th Wall’s presentation of ART is the vision of veteran director, Christine Vittorini. When asked what inspired Ms. Vittorini about this particular play, she stated “how we view art is one thing, but being able to let others view and critique our art is another. When we create and show our work, it can be quite vulnerable. In the play one man just “gets” this one art piece, it touches him. He admittedly spends quite a small fortune for it. When he dares to share the piece of art with his friends… well that’s where the heart of the story lives.”
All performance can be seen at The Beacon, 445 Main Street, Beacon, NY.
Performance dates are Friday and Saturday at 8PM on January 27th and 28th and February 3rd and 4th; Sunday at 2 PM on January 29th and February 5th.
